</html>";s:4:"text";s:5978:"On the verge of losing those viewers that may have been finding it all a bit too similar to The Bridge, it’s given us a hope that there may be a great deal more surprises in store, and if they come with as shocking a jolt as this one, then the show firmly has our attention. Episode two does finish establishing their individual characters though. The timeline shifts to two days earlier. She appears to be the broker of what we’d call a “Green Card” wedding in the United States. Robert Fournier – Johan Heldenbergh (The Zookeeper’s Wife, Moscow Belgium, The Broken Circle Breakdown) French and British police arrive at the scene: Capitaine Elise Wassermann of the French police, and DCI Karl Roebuck from the UK. Mike Bowden – Stanley Townsend (The Libertine, Florence Foster Jenkins, The Shadow Line, Fleming) Eryka Klein the assistant of Paul Bresson (who’s been referred to as a judge) is questioned by Karl, Elisa and Olivier. I was very worried that it was going to get preachy and heavy-handed – it certainly swerved in that direction, but wasn’t too bad – and when one of the attendees starts playing “Kumbaya” on the guitar – it’s a gentle, humorous nod that the characters (and writers) aren’t two-dimensional zealots. The students scream and run for cover. Or will they be able to keep the relationship intact? The Roebucks are struggling – are they grudgingly coming to the realization that things can’t go on this way and are on their way to an amicable divorce? Elise asks if Bresson and Eryka were lovers. That name hasn’t turned up for our tunnel murderer yet but his scary voice informs us, and the Police, that he is out to expose five truths of society. Of course, this also means that Suze has seen our killer in the flesh, the man who delivered the medication. This is a huge break in the investigation. Aamira’s story shortly and sadly ties in with the main plot. Betaal season 1, episode 1 recap - A reasonably promising opener in “The Tunnel” quickly descends into paint-by-numbers action-horror cliché – first impressions of Betaal certainly aren’t the best. Olivier notes that Eryka is very composed for someone who has lost an employer/lover. It’s not completely abandoned however. He brought the briefcase with him – so is part of the plan for the passports in the briefcase to be found? The Tunnel Season 2 Episode 1: Series 2, Episode 1 Summary: Commander Elise Wassermann and DCI Karl Roebuck reunite to investigate the case of a French couple who are abducted from the Eurotunnel. Although there’s been no shortage of police dramas that have strayed into the gory territories of horror, The Tunnel, thanks in no small part to its bleak lighting, plays this element up very well. A couple marry in a civil service with a femme fatale witness (Vanessa Hamilton) in attendance. .cls-2{mix-blend-mode:screen}.cls-3{fill:none;stroke:red;stroke-miterlimit:10;stroke-width:4px}.cls-4{fill:red}. Among the new characters are Karl’s colleague Boleslaw “BB” Borowski and CID boss Mike Bowden. The Tunnel nearly bungles its shock ending with some hurried exposition as Danny Hiller receives news of the second of our culprit’s “truths”. I’m glad we’re finally getting more episodes of The Tunnel to enjoy in the United States. The plane sequence was so awful to watch – brilliantly done – but emotionally brutal. Laura and Karl’s marriage had to endure a lot last season – the death of Adam and Karl’s cheating. And be our Facebook chum here. Get the best of Den of Geek delivered right to your inbox! The Tunnel timed this just right. We know from hearing Vanessa on the phone that she made Stefan’s plane reservations. Directed by Dominik Moll. Events take a dramatic turn when a plane crashes into the Channel. Before we got there though, The Tunnel’s sophomore effort slowed the pace that had been set during the opener, and spent most of its run time filling in the gaps that finished setting up the story. There were two characters we are introduced to (and the episode lingers on) that will ultimately be passengers on the doomed jet: Paul Bresson – we see him preparing to accept his doctorate from the University – the diploma will be one of the items that washes up on shore and is found by the boys in the opening scene. With Valérie Zaccomer, Clémence Poésy, Cédric Vieira, Stephen Dillane. It’s done so quickly that we only just had time to grasp that it’s something to do with tax payer’s money being used to care for elderly people. Should she survive, Karl and Elise are likely to want a word. Ironically, Suze has saved this lady from the poison supplied in the medication. Read James’ review of the previous episode, here. He’s obviously being set up to be a potential suspect as he is a man with ideals and one who seems to see himself on a crusade to help others. We got paid. Elise’s socially awkward behaviour grows as we’re treated to her idea of courtship with a friendly barman. Karl Roebuck – Stephen Dillane (Zero Dark Thirty, Game of Thrones, Secret State, 44 Inch Chest, King Arthur, The Hours, Spy Game) There are some nice glimpses of Karl’s home life, particularly his strained relationship with his son and a great line from his wife, played by Merlin’s Angel Coulby, when Elise phones in the middle of the night again. It was an unexpected and deliciously shocking twist. Thibaut warns Rosa that when Fournier no longer has any use for her, Fournier will kill her. There are many unanswered questions, but one thing I’m pretty certain of is that Karl will follow the siren song and rejoin CID and reunite with Wasserman to get to the bottom of this case. After random people find passports, university certificates, a wooden cross as well as other sundry items on the beach, the camera pivots to reveal a row of airplane seats on its side with two dead passengers still belted into their chairs.
